What to expect during a Reiki Treatment

What to expect during a Reiki Treatment

[R]eiki is completely safe for everybody! It does not involve any invasive treatment, all it requires is the practitioners hands. (However, some may use stones or crystals to enhance the effect of reiki) There are many wonderful things to look forward to when you are expecting your first Reiki treatment! Often, the Practitioner will send distance Reiki to the patient shortly before their appointment so that they will be completely relaxed at the time of arrival. The patient will usually be taken into a seperate room for privacy, and can choose to either lay down on a padded reiki table, or to sit in a chair to receive their treatment. It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to remove all jewelry before hand – as you will want to be as relaxed as possible.

Jewelry can often get in the way or be uncomfortable, and metals such as silver, gold, and stones are known to effect the flow of energy. When you meet for the first time, they should make it understood that your privacy and personal information shall remain confidential. There is no need for the practitioner to ask you about your medical history, or anything personal. If you feel it beneficial to share what you would like healed, the practitioner can give more reiki to the areas that are in need, this will only benefit you. During a treatment the practitioner will probably have incense burning, perhaps some candles lit, and relaxing music playing. This provides a relaxing atmosphere, and allows the energy to flow more freely.

If you are receiving “Usui” reiki, the practitioner will use a technique called byosen, which is a “scanning” done above the body to find changes of energy in the body. She will then go down the major energy centres of the body, working on clearing the individual chakras. When the Reiki Energy begins to flow, you may feel an increased warmness radiating from the hands of the practitioner. Sometimes you may even “see” the reiki energy while your eyes are closed, or feel the energy vibrate through her hands. This will feel very relaxing and you may even find yourself falling asleep. Don’t worry if you do, the Reiki energy will work regardless.

If needed the practitioner will pay extra attention to specific areas of the body that she feels are more blocked than others. Often a Reiki Session can last any where from an hour or longer, depending on what needs to be done. Results vary after a reiki treatment; You may feel full of energy, or you may feel tired. This is completely normal, as it’s your body’s way of healing itself. The reiki energy will continue to work on the areas that need healing for as long as necessary, but you may need to return for follow-up treatments if you are suffering from a chronic illness, or if you feel it necessary.

You can receive Reiki as much as you like; daily, weekly, bi-weekly, etc. It is in no way harmful, nor does it have any side effects. It is Universal life Energy, and it’s purpose is to heal.
